Balkanska Sonata

Rossen Balkanski

Since I have heard the music of Rossen Balkanski for the first time, I have been fascinated by the power and vivaciousness of his music and by his special, rare ability of giving musical form and shape to very wide-ranging contextual realms.

In the Balkanska Sonata, Balkanski proves with his mastership, that he is among those really innovative composers' personalities. Concerning the power of expression, the freshness and expressivity, but also its guitar-idiomatic innovations and the remarkable technical difficulty, almost no other piece can be compared with the Balkanska Sonata.

When I received the score of this Sonata and its dedication, I felt deeply pleased about the fact that a big, wonderful and important composition appeared. I hope, that the work will find understanding audiences everywhere and I am sure that many of the advanced players will enjoy studying this piece especially.
